SHY offers a variety of classes for every level: heated Hot Hatha and Power Vinyasa yoga, Warm Barre and Warm Sculpt, unheated Barre, and Simply Yin. Every class is open to beginners, with modifications offered and encouraged. Our experienced, multidisciplinary teachers each bring their own expertise and flair, so we encourage you to try classes with different teachers to experience their unique styles.

Hot Hatha and Power Vinyasa run at about 105°F. It is the hottest room in Tacoma, and the studio is proud of that. Simply Yin is the unheated one. All three are open to all levels.

Experience the therapeutic benefits of each pose, promoting flexibility, relaxation and a profound sense of well-being.
Barre, Sculpt and Pilates-style classes strengthen the smaller stability muscles that support the bigger ones yoga works. These sessions complement a yoga practice, enhancing overall fitness and well-being through the controlled synergy of movement, breathing and core engagement, and they are low impact and easy on the joints.

This full-body workout tones and strengthens while building stability, strength and flexibility. In a warm environment you will engage in isometric exercises designed to transform your entire body. Classes may feature barre techniques without the ballet barre, mat Pilates, or sometimes a cardio or HIIT segment to elevate your heart rate and boost cardiovascular fitness.
All levels · 60 minutes · warm, about 95°F. Experience the benefits of Barre, Pilates and Sculpt in this invigorating class. The same full-body approach as Warm Barre with the emphasis on sculpting: isometric exercises, mat Pilates, and sometimes a cardio or HIIT segment, led by teachers who each use different methods for a comprehensive workout. Expect good music and a fun energy.
All levels · 60 minutes · unheated. Similar to the warm class, but without the added heat. These sessions may incorporate more traditional aspects of Barre and Pilates technique, including the use of a ballet barre, focusing on precision and controlled movements to achieve a full-body workout. Space is limited in the small unheated room, so sign up in advance to guarantee your spot.
Occasional Pop Up classes and workshops appear on the schedule alongside the regular classes. They are one-offs, so check the schedule and the studio noticeboard for what is coming up.
Yoga mat and a large towel for the heated classes; a hand towel is optional.
Water. Hydrate well before a heated class.
No shoes are required in any class.

Brand new to the studio? Start with Barre (unheated) or Simply Yin: the room is kind and the movements are small. Comfortable with heat but new to yoga? Hot Hatha teaches the postures at a humane pace. Experienced and after a workout? Power Vinyasa or Warm Sculpt. Whatever you choose, the new-student guide will answer all your questions.
